A few days ago I walked past a cupcake shop and saw a girl practicing her buttercream swirls and on a closer look saw that the buttercream was all different colours and looked so pretty. Colours please me and lots combined was like….wow!
I’ve been meaning to try this out for a while though…..combining two different colours of buttercream to create a beautiful swirl to adorn the top of my cupcakes!!! Also having some leftover buttercream, I decided that I may as well put it to good use with an experiment.
So to start off with, I separated the buttercream evenly between 2 bowls:
I decided to colour one of them using the Sugar Flair, Grape Violet:
Get yourself some piping bags, I prefer to use disposable piping bags as I find re-usable ones a faff to clean. You can use any size piping nozzles with these ones, you just snip the end off and voila!
Pop the piping bag into a glass and roll the bag down
Then you can spoon the two different colours of buttercream into the bag easily
Carefully lift the sides of the bag back up and twist to top closed making sure you expel any air from the bag
Then you can proceed to pipe swirls on your cupcakes. I used a few different styles to achieve different effects.
Tall swirl…this one looks like it should have a Flake in it!
Flat Swirl
Several peaked swirls
They all look so pretty
I may even try using 3 different colours next time and see what results I get!
You can use any colour combinations perhaps to go with different holidays throughout the year!
